5 Superfoods That Can Help In Boosting Immunity

Other than maintaining hygiene, one of the best ways to boost the immune system is to take care of the food that you eat. So, how do you build immunity from within? Simple. Apart from de-stressing and exercising regularly, you can include these five superfoods in your meals for a stronger immune system:

1. Citrus Fruits

Health experts say that citrus fruits – oranges, lemons, grapefruits and so on – can help in producing white blood cells, which means that these fruits, rich in vitamin C, can fight infections. Since our body doesn’t produce vitamin C, we need to get it from other sources like fruits.

2. Broccoli

This is one of the most nutrient-dense vegetables you can find on this planet. The humble broccoli contains vitamin K, vitamin E, potassium, magnesium, and folic acid, among other things. Plus, it’s packed with immune-boosting vitamin C. More importantly, this vegetable has something called sulforaphane that can help our body generate antioxidants. And, as we all know, antioxidants can counter harmful free radicals.

3. Tea

Both green tea and black tea have an abundant supply of disease-fighting antioxidants (polyphenols and flavonoids) that neutralise free radicals. A recent study showed that people who drank five cups of black tea every day for two weeks had 10 times more virus-fighting interferons (a group of proteins that can help cells shore up their anti-viral defence) in their blood than others who drank a hot drink placebo. Both black tea and green tea are packed with L-theanine, an amino acid that helps boost immunity.

4. Almonds

To begin with, almonds are packed with vitamin E, which is essential for our immune system’s proper functioning. What’s more, almonds are also packed with iron and protein that are also vital for our immune system. Just add almonds to your salads and desserts.

5. Camel Milk

This milk variety, experts say, contains compounds that appear to fight certain disease-causing organisms. Experts say that camel milk contains protective proteins. Besides, it has lactoferrin and immunoglobulins that have immunity-boosting properties. There are specific milk brands in India that process camel milk in India.
